Soul Food

Here is one of my early poems. I wrote it during a tough time in my life. I am excited to share it with the world!

Soul Food

That’s cooking with love

You know what I mean?

On the side mama made homemade salad and bread

Mama sometimes cooked all night with out even going to bed

She sauteed, baked and fried

When she was finished everything was good

That ain’t no lie

We had glazed Baby Back ribs

Everybody was up in our crib

From mac and cheese

From pies to fruit deserts

That would work

How sweet thy soul food

That’s an even beat

Now let’s sit and eat

Bon Appetit!

  1. Very well worded, makes me remember when my mother would cook & we sat down as a family for dinner!
